regular 8mm unsplit on single
16mm gauge R8 analytic projector
~15 mins, 2006
Performance-based and borne of the visual and mechanical potential of a regular 8mm analytic projector that projects a double-width image of unsplit 16mm gauge film. This is the second of two hand-processed pieces made for this projector (the first being goldenleaf). Techniques used include handheld lens, double-sided mirror, focus adjustment, speed variation and hand-masking. All footage is original and shot in the Wall street area of East Vancouver as well as Crab Park. "Abstract, immersive, and serendipitous film frames are explored singly and in tandem as image and lens layer to confront our perception of the focal plane." (Winnipeg Cinematheque).
